The Grade II-listed 16th Century Wythenshawe Hall had been the victim of an arson attack, leaving the upper floor and roof completely destroyed.
Following the wider programme of restoration works, undertaken by others, Manchester City Council then appointed J Greenwood Builders directly to carry out further refurbishment works to enable the hall to re-open to the general public.
The works consisted of the internal refurbishment of certain areas such as the new main function rooms, the meeting rooms, the communal corridors and the entrance as well as undertaking electrical upgrades to the building to ensure a new fibre broadband link was included as well as extensive works to the fire alarms.
Early engagement took place with the Council's Project Manager and building users to help understand and define the scope of works. Given the age of the building, it became apparent that regular communication with other key parties such as the Conservation Officer, English Heritage and members of Salford University Archaeologist department was required to ensure the scheme design was developed in keeping with the building history.

Following on from the fire restoration work at Wythenshawe Hall, J Greenwood Builders Ltd were brought in to bring the staff offices and community spaces back to life. Working in a heritage environment can be challenging, and attention to detail is all important. As contractors, Greenwoods were responsive to our needs and requirements on site, approachable, friendly and did a great job on the final product.
