The refurbishment project within the occupied Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama at the University of Manchester provided additional music practice space for students and staff of the building.
The works included the conversion of sundry office spaces into a new drama and dance practice space. The installation of a new sprung performance floor provided the focal point of the refurbishment but also the opportunity to relocate the dressing room and costume area, which formed part of the wider works. New acoustic panelling was installed mitigating acoustic noise and reverberation concerns. A new general lighting and stage lighting system with multiple controls and settings was installed, coupled with a new audio-visual system to allow multiple theme settings to be created for a variety of performance and rehearsals.
The completion of the works included new ceilings, floor covering and decoration to transform the space for both students and visitors for the University productions.
