We were awarded the project following a competitive tender process to undertake the removal of the original roof covering and replace this with a new roof covering to the main University library building which is home to a selection of the most important pieces of work the University owns.
The wider programme of works also included the replacement existing external access doors with new aluminium doors, alteration to cladding to accommodate the new increased insulation levels new drainage, copings and access ladders to transfer from different levels around the building.
A new plant room was formed with the creation of a new structural timber roof and covering to create an external space into a new internal space.
Electrical and mechanical works were included such as new lighting provision, lightning protection, roof leakage alarm works and sundry works to existing library space air-conditioning.
Undertaking the removal of the roof covering and replacing the roof was a real challenge during the winter period. Close monitoring of all internal areas was of paramount importance to ensure no disruption to the teaching and student experience was encountered.
