The project consisted of the strip out and demolition of the original nursery building which was connected to two other buildings within the central part of the School grounds. Following this careful and managed demolition, we then undertook the construction of a new nursery building for the School. The structure of the building was formed from a hot rolled steel frame design supported from concrete pad foundations with strip foundations to support the external low level brick walling.
The main function of the building was to create a new teaching and learning environment for the children. Through a clever combination of interior design, material products and specifications, together with the light colours of the wall and floor finishes within the rooms, the new double height space successfully conveyed a sense of openness.
We had plans in place to begin construction just before lockdown and because of the pandemic these had to be put on hold until the Autumn of 2021. Despite all the challenges to the building industry as we emerged from the pandemic, J Greenwood Builders continued the build according to our vision. Constructing a new building on an existing school site is not easy and presents a unique set of circumstances. I am delighted to say that Greenwoods staff worked alongside us to ensure the safety of our pupils but also allowed our children to view the progress being made and visited our children to tell them about their work
