The project at Formby Leisure Centre was constructed for the Formby Pool Trust. The works involved the extensive internal and external refurbishment together with a new steel frame extension on concrete pad foundations to provide a new gymnasium and new health studio. This helped provide further space for the expanding sports centre.
The external elevations of the building were a mix of copper clad and timber to create a contrast for the different sections of the building (wet and dry facilities). The lightweight roof ensured a robust construction building was formed, with the speed of the construction to meet the demands of a quick programme, providing a value for money development. Externally new hard and soft landscaping works were undertaken to provide a more attractive entrance and surrounding to the building environment. As part of the wider works new car parking was created with external lighting to create greater security for building users for late evening events.
