Roles and Responsibilities
Senior Estimator
The role of the Estimator is to manage and maintain full control of the pre-construction process from issue of the tender documents until the tender has been awarded.
The below is a summary of the typical responsibilities at each work stage to be undertaken. It may change from tender to tender with further responsibilities added as the detail of works and project become known.
Section 1 Tender Stage
Review all tender documentation.
Arrange a launch meeting to present initial tender thoughts to the Managing Director including all key dates.
Provide a summary of tender return requirements with all Greenwood people identified for their responsible elements e.g., programme, quality, social value etc.
Engage with the design team as required.
Engage with the Client if known.
Produce all bills of quantities (Conquest software) measures for the project (or cost plan if applicable).
Engage with the supply chain and send out compliant enquiries for the tender.
Engage with the supply chain throughout the tender period and respond to queries as they arise.
Undertake site visits to assess site constraints and logistics.
Prepare agenda / response and attend any external mid tender meetings.
Arrange a mid-tender meeting (with appropriate completed form) with the Managing Director and other as required and present status of tender.
Engage with the Contracts Manager on the programme for the project.
Engage with the Contracts Manager / Managing Director on technical design solutions.
Engage with the Contracts Manager on the traffic Management or logistics plan.
Engage with the Procurement Manager on material products.
Engage with the HS&E Director on any health and safety elements of the project.
Contribute to the risk register as necessary.
Produce a detailed and compliant tender for the project for review with the Managing Director.
Produce and complete all necessary tender forms for returning submission engage with Carol Ashworth or others to ensure full and final submission is complete and issued on time.
Section 2 Estimators Handover Stage
2.1 Prepare the agenda in the agreed format.
Present the estimate to the Build Team.
Provide the necessary supporting documentation to the CM, QS, Buyer and Site Manager.
Respond to any and all questions raised, or respond in a timely manner if answers unknow at the meeting.
Section 3 Pre-Construction / Design / Mobilisation Period
3.1 Provide support and appropriate timely response to any questions raised by the build team or indeed any external party.
Section 4 Construction Stage
4.1 Provide support and appropriate timely response to any questions raised by the build team or indeed any external party.
Section 5 Handover Stage
5.1 Provide support and appropriate timely response to any questions raised by the build team or indeed any external party.
Section 6 Defects Period Stage
6.1 Provide support and appropriate timely response to any questions raised by the build team or indeed any external party.
Section 7 Other Elements
7.1 Support the Managing Director and wider team with the business development function to support creation of new tender opportunities.
7.2 Promote Greenwood to existing Clients and Consultants you have worked with.
7.3 Share details of Clients and Consultants with Greenwood team.
7.4 Review supply chain data base and discuss new suppliers with other Greenwood colleagues for potential works.
7.5 Attend business development functions and events as required by the Managing Director.
7.6 Undertake additional training if required.
7.7 Manage and engage with the Conquest team on behalf of Greenwoods.
